To Be Master Placemakers
That was the vision that Placemaking set for itself in 2001 when it gathered its leaders to establish a new direction for the real estate division of Intrawest. We wanted to build upon our reputation as a leader in destination resorts and adventure travel to become the ultimate real estate developer in the world's best places to play.
Our name needed to reflect both our values and our vision. "Place" for us is more than nodes on a map, or climate, or terrain. It is emotional impressions, and how it feels to breathe in the air, and absorb the temperature of the atmosphere through your skin. It is the sense that you've stepped over a threshold, whether tangible or not, and have arrived someplace. "Making" is more than just building. It connotes industriousness, activity, creation, and potential. It also suggests collaboration. To make something, you need the right ingredients, expertise, and an understanding of what it is that you're creating and why.
Placemaking people are creators. By choosing the right blend of elements, we know how best to support inherent strengths, culture, and natural features. We take pride in creating living places that are a legacy to residents, visitors, and surrounding communities.
To be master placemakers, we need to be more than just real estate developers. Like no one else, we understand, are inspired by, and unveil the inherent sense of place wherever we develop a resort, village or other architectural expression. We find the essence of the place and the qualities that attract people to it. With this knowledge as the core, we are able to transform a place into a destination and a home.
And, that’s how we create places where amazing experiences happen.
